It's interesting that Moog is doing something like this, but a much more natural component for guitar was invented back in the 80's when someone came up with the Sustainiac. Later Fernandes guitars came up with a sustainer that offers both "harmonic" and "mix" modes.

In the harmonic mode, the sustained note is naturally shifted from the root note to the first 5th natural harmonic within a few seconds. The mix mode blends the two tones.

In addition to some other tweaks to my double-neck, I've been looking at the Fernandes system for a few years for my Ibanez S series and/or my DOS Dragon..

I guess if you're looking for a sustain system that does something different than the natural magnetic resonance sustainers, the Moog thing is probably pretty cool. But in general, it's not new technology.
