The Good news...? (Holy Gospel, Batman!)
Steven Weinberg Wrote:With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn Wrote:To do evil a human being must first of all believe that what he's doing is good... Ideology - that is what gives devildoing its long-sought justification and gives the evildoer the necessary steadfastness and determination. That is the social theory which helps to make his acts seem good instead of bad in his own and others' eyes, so that he won't hear reproaches and curses but will receive praise and honors.

author & Xtian apologetic, C.S. Lewis Wrote:
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

some long dead men said Jesus (aka "Joshua" sounds like "YAHshua, halleluYAH") said/ Wrote:Joshua said to him, “Why do you call me Good? There is no one good but The One God.”
...
For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
...
And The Spirit, The LORD [Yah/God] came within him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil...
...
Joshua went on to tell a parable, because He was near Jerusalem, and they supposed that The Kingdom of God was going to appear immediately. So He said, “A nobleman went to a distant country to receive a kingdom for himself, and then return... “When he returned, after receiving the kingdom, he ordered... "These enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them in My Presence."
...
I can do all [Good] things through [The Spirit] Christ which strengthens me.
...
This mystery: [The Spirit] Christ in you, the hope of Glory.
...
Hear the word of the LORD, O Nations, and declare in the coastlands afar off, and say, “He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him as a Shepherd keeps His Flock.”
... “Behold, Days are coming,” declares The LORD, “when I will sow The House of Israel and The House of Judah with the seed of Man and with the seed of Beast. “As I have watched over Them to pluck up, to break down, to overthrow, to destroy and to bring disaster, so I will watch over Them to build and to plant,” declares The LORD. ...

“Behold, Days are coming,” declares The LORD, “when I will make new The Covenant with The House of Israel and with The House of Judah, not like the Covenant which I made with Their fathers in the day I took Them by the hand to bring Them out of the land of Egypt, My Covenant which They broke, although I was a husband to Them,” declares the LORD. “But this is The Covenant which I will make with The House of Israel after those days,” declares The LORD, “I will put My Law within Them and on Their heart I will write It; and I will be Their God, and They shall be My People.
...
and since we have a great priest over The House of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of Faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure Water. Let us hold fast The Confession of our Hope without wavering, for He who promised is Faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to Love and Good deeds...

some other old men say/ Wrote:The English word "Gospel" literally means "Good News"

Quote:God Bless The USA ... In God We Trust

Congressional Record. Vol 128 (1982) Wrote:CONGRESS DECLARES THE BIBLE "THE WORD OF GOD"

97th Congress Joint Resolution [S.J.Res. 165] 96 Stat. 1211 Public Law 97-280 - October 4, 1982

Joint Resolution authorizing and requesting the President to proclaim 1983 as the "Year of the Bible."
Whereas the Bible, the Word of God, has made a unique contribution in shaping the United States as a distinctive and blessed nation and people;
Whereas deeply held religious convictions springing from the Holy Scriptures led to the early settlement of our Nation;
Whereas Biblical teachings inspired concepts of civil government that are contained in our Declaration of Independence and the constitution of the United States;
Whereas many of our great national leaders--among them Presidents Washington, Jackson, Lincoln, and Wilson--paid tribute to the surpassing influence of the Bible in our country's development, as the words of President Jackson that the Bible is "the rock on which our Republic rests";
Whereas the history of our Nation clearly illustrates the value of voluntarily applying the teachings of the Scriptures in the lives of individuals, families, and societies;
Whereas this Nation now faces great challenges that will test this Nation as it has never been tested before; and
Whereas that renewing our knowledge of and faith in God through Holy Scripture can strengthen us as a nation and a people: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the President is authorized and requested to designate 1983 as a national "Year of the Bible" in recognition of both the formative influence the Bible has been for our Nation, and our national need to study and apply the teachings of the Holy Scriptures.

Approved October 4, 1982.

Sept. 21 Considered and passed House.

those same old long dead men also Wrote:See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven.

Whereas the Bible, the Word of God, has made a unique contribution in shaping the United States as a distinctive and blessed nation and people;

Go back in history from 1982 to 325 when another group of men wrote:

Quote:the formulation of the symbol of the First Ecumenical Council, of which the following is a literal translation:

We believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of all things visible and invisible; and in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten of the Father, that is, of the substance [ek tes ousias] of the Father, God of God, light of light, true God of true God, begotten not made, of the same substance with the Father [homoousion to patri], through whom all things were made both in heaven and on earth; who for us men and our salvation descended, was incarnate, and was made man, suffered and rose again the third day, ascended into heaven and cometh to judge the living and the dead. And in the Holy Ghost. Those who say: There was a time when He was not, and He was not before He was begotten; and that He was made out of nothing (ex ouk onton); or who maintain that He is of another hypostasis or another substance [than the Father], or that the Son of God is created, or mutable, or subject to change, [them] the Catholic Church anathematizes.

Notice how each 'congress' wants us to believe as they do.

It is so easy to sell State and Faith to the average person.

We must respect and believe in our learned Authorities especially those who wear robes.

Do you feel anathematized?

I would say, "nothing new under the sun"... but then, We know who's likely to get the credit for it (as a quote) --presently.

Tough thing about con artists (or the illusioned/magi); they always need and use truth(s) to sell the rest. (the mice say the same of rat bait)
