Voluntary Society : How to buy and sell?

Voluntary Society : How to buy and sell?
Anyone have any ideas on how we would buy and sell in a voluntary society? If we were using a currency, then we would need a federal reserve type of organization to print money for whoever signed up I guess right? And if we arent using currency then a barter system? I honestly dont know anything about barter systems so someone please lay out a basic plan of how the world would work on a barter system.

Barter is simply trade.

If you have a car that you want to trade for my 1/2 acre of land, and I agree with the trade then it's a done deal. If not, maybe I'd suggest that I'll trade for your car AND your stereo, or whatever.

Zat help?

You may understand that you're not that stupid, but how are others supposed to know that? :tongue2:

But you're right, that is why money is so valuable, it makes trade so much easier. I don't know if you saw the article I wrote on "Non-Money," but the point I was attempting to solve was how can we make barter easier in a modern world with modern technology.

It's kinda like how it is a lot easier to read a sentence if someone uses generally recognized punctuation and stuff. You can maybe get by without it, but it's LOTS easier if you don't have to fight for every bit of understanding. :winkwink: LOL

i feel it... gold and silve and other precious metals ,might be a good choice instead of fiat currency because its more universal what do you think?

Re: Voluntary Society : How to buy and sell?
using a "medium" that has intrinsic value is at the core of sound storage of value and sound exchange of value...

silver and gold are just two examples...

Well, it just seemed that a simple question regarding the nature of barter does not deserve being plopped down in the middle of a fairly-complex already-involved=discussion of fiat money and potential new technologies for the avoidance of same. I just figgered that was probably more than he was asking for. Dat's all.

You know, like he was asking for the time and got dropped into a watchmaker's convention.

Ok, I see what you're seeing. It's phunny how these minds work. I guess I heard his first question:
Quote:Anyone have any ideas on how we would buy and sell in a voluntary society?
and it seems you hear more in his last question/comment
Quote:And if we arent using currency then a barter system? I honestly dont know anything about barter systems so someone please lay out a basic plan of how the world would work on a barter system.
:wacky:
It also being my presumption that it would be pretty obvious that a straight or pure barter won't work practically, etc; obviously my presumption because it was stated "I don't know anything about barter systems". My bad. I think what I was hearing in the whole of the post was that "barter system" simply was a phrase for non-monopoly/non-coercion/non-Statist money simply because money, as a word (used for buying and selling aka a medium of exchange), hadn't been considered as possible apart from those historical and present means.

Yeah, my presumption from the tone of his questions is that this is something he's not spent much time learning or thinking about, so the other discussion would simply be more confusing than helpful. :winkwink:

Re: Voluntary Society : How to buy and sell?
i still havent seen an actual plan on how the economy would work all you did is define the word barter, which is what i already knew. How would barter practically work in the economy? What would Logitech barter with its employees to keep them working on their products? Would they get a pair of shoes an hour? A hat an hour? "Ill trade you 6 hours of work for a cell new phone"

Smart has nothing to do with it. There are lots of discussions that I would not have a clue about and it has nothing to do with smarts. I just didn't feel that the link was really responsive to the questions you were asking. Feel free to jump into that thread, of course.
