Re: Love the radio show
I love the radio show too! I've been listening for quite some time now and I finally got around to joining the forum.
Kat, It's so good to see another Free Stater on this forum. I met you and Russell at last year's Porc Fest. I hope everyone is doing well. Tom |

Listening to the archives now Welcome, Kat, TomP. ![]() Hey Kat (and others?) since you actually put shoe leather to your "beliefs" I want to applaud you for that. Have you heard of the novel by Boston T. Party called "Molon Labe!" -- it starts where some folks aren't happy with the Free State Project deciding on New Hampshire and they decide to give Wyoming a try (the start of the book gives a bunch of reasons why WYO over NH). It's a great book, exciting story that covers 3 decades of "future history" in a very engaging way, with hundreds of fantastic liberty-related quotes, and I highly recommend it (just finished reading it a few weeks ago, hard to put it down). my some thoughts on ths story/theme/concept -- also, idea of including this book, as part of a larger curriculum :wishmeluck: |

Darren Dirt Wrote:... I read "Hologram of Liberty" recently by the same author. It helped dispel the last remnants of any belief that the constitution actually does anything to protect me. It's amazing I still have any sanity left after all the massive paradigm shift my mind had to endure. In six years I have gone from being Democrat, to Republican, to Libertarian, to Voluntaryist. Up until recently, my beliefs were always in conflict. Even as a political Libertarian there was some point at which force was used, such as immigration or import taxes. I just couldn't get past it. For me its so much easier to start with "no service should be provided by force" and figure out solutions from that. |

Yes, I've heard of Molon Labe, but haven't read it. From what little I'd heard, it was more about violence than I'd been interested in reading about. But you make it sound like it's worth taking a look at.
I have to agree about the constitution doing little to protect us. We held a funeral for it a while back. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.keenefreepress.com/mambo/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=122&Itemid=36">http://www.keenefreepress.com/mambo/ind ... &Itemid=36</a><!-- m --> <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.newhampshireunderground.com/wiki/tiki-browse_gallery.php?galleryId=65">http://www.newhampshireunderground.com/ ... lleryId=65</a><!-- m --> |

KatKanning Wrote:I have to agree about the constitution doing little to protect us. We held a funeral for it a while back. Hi, Kat--------- and a belated "welcome" to the AiLL world! ![]() I wondered if you've read Marc's book, Adventures In Legal Land yet? If you'll pardon my 3rd party shameless promotion, considering your comment I've quoted above, I can't more highly recommend to you to read it. ![]() And while you're awaiting a copy in the mail (you are, right? ) please also consider reading Lysander Spooner's writings, particularly "No Treason" (assuming again from quoting you above, you've not yet read it??) [Spooner's major writings are available to read free online <<==clik here]Suffice it to say for now, believing the CONstitution can do, or ever has done any "thing" like protecting any one, in my opinion indicates a missing of central and foundational reasoning-- a reasoning that if one hopes to find protection for the future will be vital, imho. [suffice it to be briefly noted as well, that most of "us" have good reason to have held such fundamental beliefs because of our cultural education-- hand over heart, flag waving & founding father worship ad nauseum, ad infinitum] Holding, as expressing, that ink scribblings on a piece of parchment can "protect" is akin to holding that Harry Potter's wand can protect us... ?!? Or perhaps that if only enough people believed (ie voted for it?) The Wizard Of Oz's written proclamation can protect... like it did for the munchkins in the past?!? :wacky: I offer that it is the misguided holding of beliefs like this that have allowed the very loss of protection that each of us desires. Fantasy corrupts; absolute fantasy corrupts absolutely...?! :-\ No disrespect intended, but only a hope to nudge*nudge*wink*wink here the foundational ("found-a-Nation-all") reasoning/thinking... Apologies as well, if I'm assumed incorrectly at all in your posted comment. ---eye2i2 _______________________________

But you make it sound like it's worth taking a look at. I have an 11 year old son. I am letting him watch the TV series "Firefly" over the next few weeks, even though there is the occasional violent scene, the Freedom Message (plus the character development and humour) are well worth it. I plan on encouraging him to read "Molon Labe" as well in the next few months or years. But let me clarify: there is more violence clearly depicted/described in the 14 episodes of "Firefly" than there is in the 600-ish pages of "Molon Labe" -- in fact in ML there is
a "build-up" at the end of the story, with lots of inidividuals gathering together preparing to "fight to the death" ... but no shots are fired.
The novel is about IDEAS, about how the Freedom Message is infectous and when distributed the proper way can spread virally and suck the life out of the Beast of Tyranny... Plus it's kinda funny at times, how BTP depicts the terrorcrats, especially the spooks and the White House ![]() Perhaps you have heard reference to ML in combination with "Unintended Consequences"? I own that book too, haven't started reading it yet, but I would presume that it will have more actual violence in its plot. |

Re: Love the radio show
I was just wondering, this project isnt saying that no government would be better right? What about police, roads, schools, water treatment, the military, disaster response teams, our economy, the threat of terrorism (it does exist), courts? I mustve misunderstood what you were saying because its not a well thought out plan.

Treating others with respect rather than contempt and violence is really a stupid idea. Wonder why we hadn't noticed that 'til you came along? - NonMarc "I just don't understand how this happens."

Re: Love the radio show
Go easy NonE, MarcStevens is new here. Great username by the way :eekeek:
Government is a group of men and women providing services at the barrel of a gun. Do you think it's necessary to shoot people to provide services? I've done whole shows about a voluntary society and give historical and present examples where the services you mention are provided privately. Listen to the archived shows and also google "voluntary city". If government services were valuable and the market wanted them, they wouldn't be provided on a compulsory basis. |

marc Wrote:Go easy NonE, MarcStevens is new here. Great username by the way :eekeek: ^ what marc said ^ Also, MS, if you plan on staying an active participant in the AiLL forum, would you mind changing your name? (or deleting that one and creating a new one) -- I imagine it would be very confusing to future new members if they see a post by you and presume it is the author of the book, and not a "Newbie Member" like yourself. (note to Kurt: what about adding a list of "not allowed" names when creating a new account in the forum? Or better yet, making it so the true "admin" users show up in Red Text -- like a lot of "official forum of [xyz]" do...) |
