Re: Why you picked your avatar...?
My present one (06/2007) is a bit of a play on Alice In Wonderland's white rabbit and The Matrix's Neo-cool 8) sunglasses-- tho being the old fart I am, I use my generation shades Wink.  I like that rather than the rabbit being white and a toon (fiction), he's "real"-- in living color, hopefully indicative of my really coming out of LegalLand's State of Mind and back into reality!  But of course, sadly, still presently having to keep (loop) holes to scurry to and hide from "all the king's men"...  8)

[Image: th_thicon-update-1.gif] (or the latest)
My present one is a picture of the infamous White Rabbit of Alice In Wonderland fame, romping amidst what is a collapsing House of Cards; where for me it's about seeing the allusion amidst delusion so that The State House of cards is seen for just what it is --a state of mind. The white rabbit additional for me holds hope that I'll one day morph to the likes of myself being more akin with Br'er Rabbit... (with Br'er Bear [Br'er State], but not with The Tar Baby [Br'er State2]...) Wink
Quote:[T]he hare figures prominently in the storytelling traditions in Western, Central and Southern Africa. These tales continue to be part of the traditional folklore of numerous peoples throughout those regions. In the Akan traditions of West Africa, the trickster is usually the spider (see Anansi), though the plots of spider tales are often identical to those of rabbit stories.

Many have suggested that the American incarnation, Br'er Rabbit, represents the black slave who uses his wits to overcome circumstances and to exact revenge on his adversaries, representing the white slave-owners. Though not always successful, his efforts made him a folk hero. However, the trickster is a multi-dimensional character. While he can be a hero, his amoral nature and lack of any positive restraint can make him a villain as well. For both Africans and African Americans, the animal trickster represents an extreme form of behavior which people may be forced to emulate in extreme circumstances in order to survive. The trickster is not to be admired in every situation; he is an example of what to do, but also an example of what not to do. The trickster's behavior can be summed up in the common African proverb: "It's trouble that makes the monkey chew on hot peppers." In other words, sometimes people must use extreme measures in extreme circumstances.

Re: Why you picked your avatar...?
I was visiting the MTV "surreal life" page or something a few days ago. Found that fantastic shot of the [in]famous 47 year old American comedian, actor, disc jockey, and game show host.

Just couldn't resist grabbing it. ;D

Mine is from a tv show I did called the Libertarian Alternative back in March 05.

If government services were valuable and the market wanted them, they wouldn't be provided on a compulsory basis.

Re: Why you picked your avatar...?
I found South Park Studio and tried to come up with a character that looked enough like me and had some trappings that represented my life & values. For example, if you go there, you'll notice that there are little t-shirt motifs and once of them is the graffitti-like anarchy symbol. Being a professional guitarist, I wanted the guitar in there, too, but it was hiding the symbol, so I just Photoshopped the symbol onto the body of the guitar.

Here's the same image at a better size:

Someone recently said -- though I can't find it, stupid too-generous search results... -- that I should "never change" my avatar.

Funny you should say that Smile Mark Dice (aka "John Conner") Confronts Danny Bonaduce :o ... and Part Two ... very impressive, calm and civil, the both of them

interesting tips: How to Call Talk Shows (by Mark 'formerly John Conner' Dice)

Re: Why you picked your avatar...?
Very fitting comment NonE - how can a non entity have one?

I am a cheeky Australian (for those who didn't know) and, after watching the film 'Kangaroo Jack' decided that the character of Jack perfectly summized the right combination of my love for the most beautiful part of Australia (the outback, together with its' lawless characters and uncivilized colloquialisms) with my cheeky 'catch me if you can'  attitude of flippancy that involuntarily emerges whenever thugs are on my t®ail which, at the end of the day, always leaves me unscathed (naturally!).

The picture came from the films' official website yet required some light photoshopping to deliver it into the form you see now.

Regards,
tru

Might you clarify a tad bit more?
I'm not familiar at all with the picture* and at this size, I can't begin to make out what it's "saying"...  8)
