THERE GOES OUR WAY OF LIFE! It got me to thinking why 60 minutes was relatively quick to do its show on "Tunisia and the spark that launched uprisings" The initial event that started the sequence was that Mohamed didn't have a license to sell his wares at the open market. It was acknowledged that many vendors don't. (How dare he provide a valued service to the community without the permission of the grass hoppers.) He complained to the woman (agent making demand at point of a gun) who took his scale because he knew he'd have to pay a bribe to get it back, and she slapped him. (In the states it's pay a fine to get in the States good graces to get their license back*) The tale continues with the Mohamed had had enough and went to the government office screaming he wanted his scale back... They were of no help. *Every State License I've seen says State of ________ drivers license or whatever the licenses is for. They all say the State of Ohio license. It isn't my license, it belongs to the state. The social security number is also property of the State/government. Bob Simon: "A lot of big countries in the world are worried it's going to get chaotic here... Tunisians say they are proud to have been pioneers of revolution in the region." I'm thinking about the powers that be in more prominent countries like the U.S. pondering that the police and oath keepers won't fire on or beat with batons or tear gas revolutionaries in the U.S. if when there is a revolution that takes to the streets. Or if they won't follow orders given by their superiors to violate the rights of American people en-mass such as would be the case under declared marshal law. Heaven forbid the American people use Facebook and the Internet in general to just say "No" to State "authority". |
